According to the DVD commentary by directore Eli Roth he strongly considered casting Rutger Hauer as the Dutch Businessman.
Anne Rice wanted Hauer to play Lestat but was overuled by the producers. She threatened to take her name off the project right up until she saw the final cut because she believed Cruise couldn't do the role justice.
Rutger Hauer was considered for the role of Robocop.
