Several sources claimed that Rosie O'Donnell might play Mrs. Weasley. One report said that O'Donnell offered to play the role for free, but the producers turned her down because they wanted an all British cast.

O'Donnell discussed (on the 10/26/09 Howard Stern Show) the fact that she was offered the lead role by Woody Allen repeatedly but she turned it down over her objections to Allens relationship with Soon-Yi Previn.
