Roles turned down by Edward G. Robinson:
Star Leslie Howard refused to do the movie version of the stage hit unless his Broadway co-star Bogart repeated his role.
The great star was the original choice to play "Dr. Zaius" and filmed a scene in makeup with Charlton Heston, but pulled out because he didn't feel his health was up to the rigors of performing daily under heavy ape makeup.
